I read this rather interesting take slash somewhat insulting, and funny blog rant today about bloggers. Bloggers in general, not related to fashion or tech – although both were mentioned. The jist [and I am MAJORLY jisting] was that not all bloggers are writers, and that if you are a blogger, and consider yourself a writer (given the five simple steps stated in said post), you are, in fact, an idiot. No kidding.
I would never claim to be a er, “writer”. I write how I talk, speak – whatever. I don’t user grammar properly, because lets face it – unless you graduated with a major in-the-many-streams-of-English or have OCD, the only reason you would comment on a blog about grammar is if you have some sort of unruly hatred inside of you – and I am being serious. Blogs to me, are diary-esq, not some place to censor yourself, most of the time people write a gigantic run-on-sentences, to hell with it, most people TALK face-to-face in run-on-sentences so I don’t see why it matters, really, even if it comes with a price tag, you blog because you can. Period … and if you are hired on your ability to write, it’s that simple, they hired you because of your personal tone and voice … yet maybe not.
I literally just had to google the definition of a blog while I sit here, and ironically the definition is “a web site containing the writer’s or group of writers’ own experiences, observations, opinions, etc.,” … ha! bit me in the ass … but not quite, because I don’t agree with that definition if put up against Mayka’s post. At least urban dictionary gives a better definition for a blog, “short for weblog, a meandering, blatantly uninteresting online diary that gives the author the illusion that people are interested in their stupid, pathetic life that consists of such riveting entries as “homework sucks” and “I slept until noon today.” But I suppose quoting urban dictionary is like quoting wikipedia, which is something a writer would never do. So maybe my post holds no ground to you, and that is completely fine, but I’d like to think the guys and gals I know who do blog, particularly those who have a fashion blog, know we stand alone.
We know we are narcissistic, and our blog posts are somewhat uninteresting to [probably a large, colossal even] demographic of people, we know there are people out there who scratch their heads and have many WTF?! moments when it comes to fashion bloggers integrating and overhauling media, collaborating, fashion week, writing, editorial, promotion, modeling, designing, photographing, being photographed [breath...] etc……, and how ordinary people somehow manage to work with some of the biggest names and brands [subjectively] in the 21st century, but the truth is, we have made something out of it, we have figured it out, a way to capitalize on that fact that we aren’t writers, we aren’t models, we aren’t professional, and for me, personally – apparently not coy, and guess what, I’d like to think it’s because we write how we talk, speak, – WHATEVER! Without the proper use of grammar. Not that you can’t get ahead by being smart enough to know the difference between their and there [which, to Mayka's credit, you honestly should].
To read Mayka Mei’s take-with-a-grain-of-salt-funny-and-witty post click here, she is a very talented writer, as she would prefer to be seen, and I agree. Oh and Mayka, me wearing pink in this post wasn’t planned for you, but I hope you enjoy it.
On a swift switch back to me, I am happy to report the Bloggers Night Out soiree in NYC was apparently flawless, I am so proud of my team for being so amazingly talented, and our amazing sponsors who bend over backwards. I am also so excited to tell you that I am actually speaking at a huge conference in Toronto on Thursday hosted by one of the biggest Marketing Magazines – er – Marketing Mag, about young influencers, and – you guessed it – focused on blogging. BAM!!
I write how I talk, write – WHATEVER.
BLANT* done.

* Blant: taken from Mayka’s defenition – is a “blog rant.” I [Mayka] made it up in hopes that everyone the world over will realize that mashing up words is not cute, even if it is effective in producing an awful-sounding word that sounds like an annoying goat who just doesn’t care.
]]>This dress is possibly one of my favorite vintage pieces handed down from my Gran, to my Mum, and now to me – it has so much history – and thats really what I love about vintage fashion. The story. This dress has hundreds of stories I am certain, but one that I will share with you, is that this dress is my Papa’s favorite. He loved it on my Gran, loved it on my mum, and recently told me that he loved it on me, and that just makes my heart melt.
This dress is really odd, it is pure velvet heaven and the hem is pleated. Under the bust it is rouched to the left side, and the pattern of pinks, reds, and maroons alone should be enough to tell you that there is a lot going on here – yet it is all seems works so perfectly harmoniously together. With this dress I am not wearing any gems or jewels, the dress is its own statement piece. However the lipstick that everyone keeps asking me about is MAC Cosmetics – Film Noir.
also, if you haven’t yet, please check out my re-design for the Bloggers Night Out website – we are hosting two events for the holiday season in partner with Bloomingdales!!!! eek!! Details to follow soon!!

This post was fun to shoot, although rather time consuming due to the fact that I was suppose to be at my boyfriend’s parents place for dinner during this shoot … lol … priorities. This past weekend was Thanksgiving here in Canadaland, and like the rest of North America, we were blessed beyond belief with incredible weather. Although I am in light cotton trousers here, I sported daisy dukes every moment here after for I was so overwhelmed by the heat [horrible for someone just getting over the cold], I found myself spending my days casually catting with family and friends, and tossed in the odd nap here and there. Sunday my amazing family and I celebrated my mum’s birthday!! I wont say how old she is, she would kill me [HI MOM!] but we are continuing the celebrations this weekend as we are sneaking off to Jamaica for one week. During that week expect to see a guest post by KD from The Girl with the Messy Hair - a fellow Canadian and a girl who’s closet I would ravage in a heart beat and a love child I know you guys will adore.

I adore The MAve Hotel, if you have followed this here blog for quite some time, you’d know I am not stranger to this boutique hotel. I was lucky enough to find this gem online last season for New York Fashion Week. If you know me personally {and now, virtually} you will know I google everything. This was no exception. I read, researched, called, hounded just to see what other people experienced while staying here. So again, if you know me, you would know I can have a conversation with a refrigerator, and conversation is very important to me. I read reviews up the wahzoo and found that the staff were said to be nothing short of amazing, and amazing they were the first time – and even more amazing the second time!! The rooms are cleaner than clean, personalized and modern. Every fashionista’s dream. I made friends with the staff the first time around, so when it came to staying in New York City for this season, The MAve was my only choice – only – this time I wasn’t lugging just a 60LBS suitcase, I was brining five other girls with me. A little swagger, mixed with my sarcastically-charming-irresistible-wit and BAM! The six of us were booked at The MAve for five nights. They treated me like royalty, but it wasn’t just me, or the girls that stayed with me – it was everyone – the staff are exceptional – full of real recommendations [not paid recommendations! NYC hotels are usually paid to endorse] – they are honest, reliable, hilarious and have become more than just “staff” to me, they honestly have become my home-away-from-home. You can bet 100% in February I will be staying at The MAve NYC and you should too!

SCARF: Vintage Silk, thrifted
TOP: Burnt Purple, Aritzia
BANDEAUX: Black and White Stripped – Artizia
SHORTS: Highschool jeans, DIY Daisy Dukes – American Eagle
BOOTS: c/o Cougar Boots – the legend - origional UGGS from 1980′s.
If you follow my blog, by now you clearly know I am a vintage-whore [the nice kind, of course]. This also means I wake up each morning and my outfit 100% dictates my attitude. Some days its vintage, others thrifted – from time-to-time corporate [hey! girl's gotta work!], and Thursday’s are usually followed by designer-buys from Holts. In all – this country girl loves her city style – but from time-to-time, it’s really nice just to go visit my mum in the country, hick off my heels, and wear the best boots humanly possible.
The Pillow Boot from Cougar Boot is a legend. Literally, ask your mum right now – I bet you $100 she had a pair in the 1980′s, these puppies are made from the softest top grade leather, their red interior and caramel hyde are their signature mark – not to mention, the “hello-canadiana” it seems to scream! lol. I was so very fortunate to of been sent a pair, these babies will be God’s gift come October-through-to-March, – trenching through the woods with Rudiger {my pup}. I can’t say I’ll wear them to the office, but I do know my feet will thank me every 5k walk Rud I an endure. Thanks Cougar – now I know why hot 40-something-housewives are called Cougars, its from their Cougar Boot days. We’re brining the 80′s back. Officially.
In other news, NYC is in two days, I cannot wait to be reuinted with my loves, get some runway shows in, a broadway show, Fashion Night Out, Blogger’s Night Out, a visit to the Met, MOMA, and of course, the guggenheim – some shopping, dining – (wine really,) and then head back home after the most successful MBFW ever.
loads of love.

BAH! just a quick hello to fill you in on the whirlwind of what is planning for New York Fashion Week! I have been trying to keep my evenings as free as possible, for logistical reasons – and also so I don’t pull out all my hair!! As you probably know by now, I, along with five other [amazingly-talented] blogger friends are throwing a massive elite party connecting Bloggers with Brands at 404NYC – the date, Friday September 9th, is the night after Fashion Night Out – so naturally, we called it Blogger’s Night Out. Check out our website for more details, also click around to see who is involved! If you can’t make it to New York – please follow us on twitter @bloggernightout to keep you connected! We have LOADS [and literally I mean loads] of goodies and surprises up our sleeves. It is our inaugural event – but we slammed down the bias’ and stepped up our amplification to get you more than you ever expected!!
I have another two posts to do before I leave early next week – so check back Thursday!! loads of love. eek!
marissa from the style cusp – her posts inspire my everyday wear – she is very classic with so much love to give, not to mention our common wine obsessions.
erika is the editor at style activist ; erika covers everything from events to her personal adventures through fashion, not to mention she is a workout fiend who has a rocking bod to show for it.
lynzy is from sparklingfootsteps ; lynz is a foodie, fashion, exercise junkie – she writes about her personal style and her upcoming nuptials.
christine is from view-from-5ft2 ; christine’s wardrobe is one I want to divulge myself in – I would steal it in a minute, classic lines with flowy pieces – I die.
caitlin is the editor of stylewithinreach ; cait is the first person I met in NYC, she has her hands in a million-and-one jars, from being the editor of her own blog covering budget friendly designer wears to being a contributor on countless blogs.
I highly suggest you bookmark their blogs, and follow them on twitter if you don’t already. These girls are hilarious, they work hard and we plan to celebrate by playing hard during New York Fashion week.

I don’t “do” casual very well. There was a time you see. where I wrote in the “about me” section something along the lines of “you’ll never catch me in a graphic T” … oh how the times have changed. [well - er - not really].
This T is one of four I probably own. I bought it in Venice, Italy [ironic] that is it an [obvious] take on the I LOVE NY T.
Speaking of New York City [see how I just fit that in there, lol - there is no doubt, in your mind anyway - that this post and T were done hand-in-hand].
I am headed back to New York for Fashion Week come September. My boss, my amazing boss – has allowed me to leave mid week [again] to venture off to per-sue this very thing here – called blogging. This will be my second time in New York for Fashion Week, and I am as excited as one can be – but before you judge me, roll your eyes, and mutter “nice life” … let me tell you, this here life comes at few prices – and one of them happens to be hard-effing-work.
So much hard work in fact, some of the [truly ah-maz-ing] girls I met last season and myself are teaming up on a very special collaborative project for bloggers [details to come!]
This projet I so secretly unravel, happens to be a lot of work, a lot of organization, and a lot of witty-bantering-back-and-forth-whilst-at-work-via-email-HA! None the less, work.
And I promise you – this will pay off, and it will be fabulous [explanation point].
