HOMETOWN GLORY

I feel as though I write the same sentences over & over …

“this was my grans, my ma’s, thrifted, vintage …”
OR
“look what I found in our basement today …”

these sentences make me feel as though I paint the picture that my ma’s place is the next stop on A&E’s hit show HOARDERS.
- I assure you, it’s not. lol.

Again, today, I found 100 maps from National Geographic in a box ranging from the 1950′s to the mid 1990′s. The maps you see include maps of Egypt, England, Ethiopia, Africa, the U.S of A, and millions of provincial ones, but it is safe to say my gran collected every map ever published – she also would purchase a map wherever she went as a cheap souvenir.

The most prized one I came across today would be the New York City map from 1952 that reads on the front – Now In FULL Color [wow!] I cannot wait to be standing RIGHT THERE on BROADWAY!!

So I took advantage of the fact that I found these maps, and knew I had to incorporate them into my post for today –  so I spread them on a portion of my bedroom floor and romped around.

The hat, coincidently, was also found today in my ma’s closet. Bless her good taste in the 80′s.

THE BIG APPLE

I have never had the urge to live in New York City. Period.

My grandparents are from the U.K and I am lucky to of traveled the world at sixteen [and a few times since], to know that there is more excitement [for me] that lay in Europe than in the good ol’ U.S of A. Now I am not minimizing the dreams of others – I understand full well the pull people have to NYC’s bright lights – but those lights have never spelt out my name …. until now.

I was very, VERY lucky to get a ticket to the Evolving Influence Fashion Blogger Conference held February 10th & 11th at MILK STUDIOS in Chelsea. Once sorted, it took no time for me to book off time from work and start researching like mad, to find my hotel & flight options. 10 minutes later I found myself in a whirlwind of happiness, and this excitement managed to radiate via telephone and wrangle in two of my friends to join me in NYC for a few days. There are no words.

So of course, naturally, I am loosing my mind. I have no idea which shows I am seeing or what I will be doing whilst there [other than the two day conference, and shopping], but let me tell you, I am sneaking into whatever I have to – and I happen to know a few people who will be there, and maybe even a few more who will be joining me. This is literally the time of my life.

I am so excited to of been given this opportunity to learn and grow, the conference will focus on how to achieve a better understanding on running a blog [because, er, I am definitely no expert] – as well as allow me to properly creep people in person, for I have been following some of these people for the last six years. Bloggers from all over the country will be there, and the keynote speaker is royalty. [I will post details this weekend]*

SHHHHH* ALSO I must tell you I am so excited to be collaborating with a wonderfully beautifully talented plum & her jewelry line – but again, more details to come!! That’s all for now!! AH!!

IT’S A MAD MAD WORLD

I was honored to be fatured as this weeks fashion blogger on fashionism.ca.

Honored that I am to of been chosen in the first place, I am also honored to be featured first among many [and I do mean many] talented fashion bloggers.  Below is a snapshot of the mad-lib and please, don’t forget to check out Christopher as the Fashionist www.fashionist.ca or the article written here

VIVIAN MAIER

this post is un-related to fashion. but not entirely.
I doubt you know who Vivian Maier is, I doubt it, because up until a few hours ago, I too – had no idea.
Like a lot of things in life, we learn as we grow.
Who people are, what they do, how they act, what they like, dislike, loathe etc.

But this woman, this Vivine Maier of France. Well she was a woman nobody ever really knew.

I urge you to watch the below video, if nothing but to see the true beauty this woman saw around her – as a photographer I am at a loss of words, how could someone capture such a colourful life, and share her talents with no one?? [incase you need further convincing, Vivian died at age 83, her talents unknown, a young man bought a bin full of negatives at an open auction and acquired 3,000+ images, since then he has traced everyone he can who either bought, or knew things of Vivian - this is his discovery].

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWEDOnBfDUI]

here are some other photos that I found on the blog dedicated to her discovery.

Take a moment to really look at what you are seeing, the moment, the part where the subject sees Vivian taking the photo, and allows it. They are magical moments in time. Forever.
** All images were  found on http://vivianmaier.blogspot.com/ please visit for more stunningly beautiful photographic images!! enjoy the amazingness!!

A WILD HUNT

I left my heart to the wild hunt a-comin
I live until the call
And I plan to be forgotten when I’m gone
Yes I’ll be leavin’ in the fall

I am currently obsessed with The Tallest Man On Earth. If you hadn’t heard of him before [which I just assume] then please check out this hot Sweed. I am in love with the old folk sound with modern lyrics & tempo … le sigh … dreamy.
Onto topics of interest … HAPPY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I had the best of times with family & friends, and I truly made the most of it. I am so happy the place  that I work acknowledges what one more day can do ; they gave us today off, to recover, from our holidays!

I broke into some property UofT has up around where my ma lives. It is a conservation area … and it looked … well … conserved enough to have a quick shoot!
The contrast and colours were just amazing with what I was wearing … I am very pleased. Mostly because the boyfriend bought me a new lens and this was my first time using it!!

However, upon arrival to said destination … it was a hike & a half in my Ralph Lauren booties … and the terrain was rather, urg … un stable. I spent the majority of the time laying on layers of tall dead grass because I could barely stand without holding onto something! – but how could you even tell? right? lol.
I am also stunned by the massive weather change we are experiencing! I will have you know that on Christmas day we did indeed have snow … but slowly over the last week we have come to a springing halt! I sported my leather bomber all week & even rocked a pair of flats yesterday!!
Today was a bit chilly, but gorgeous outside. I hope you all managed to spend time with loved ones this holiday. May twenty eleven be the most amazing year for us all, & may it be the beginning to our biggest dreams.
